Global Handwashing Day

Global Handwashing Day is celebrated each year on October 15th. This global advocacy day raises awareness and understanding on the importance of handwashing with soap and water. It is a day where the WASH sector, implementers, donors, supporters, and community and national leaders come together to encourage people to wash their hands correctly, in order to prevent diseases and save lives.

In 2021, the Global Handwashing Day focused on theme of “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together”, tackling the “new normal” beyond COVID-19. It built on the learnings from the previous year, which highlighted the need for collective action towards universal hand hygiene.
